This study will explore perceived challenges to maintaining recommended levels of prenatal physical activity and healthy eating habits during pregnancy. Design: A Prospective cohort study was conducted to exmaine/identify the fears and barriers to prenatal exercise. Participants: Ninety females with a singleton pregnancy between 16 to 30 weeks gestation were enrolled in the study. Main Outcome Measures: Our primary outcome is barriers to physical activity and healthy eating. Results: Preliminary results indicate women who maintained at least 90 minutes or more per week of moderate physical activity during pregnancy were more likely to continue to exercise despite physical feeling tired X2(1, N = 90) = 5. Conclusion: It is important to understand perceived barriers to physical activity in order to design and promote optimal exercise practices for patients. Improving communication about trials can reduce barriers to enrollment and retention and better support decisions about trial participation. This study evaluated the use of a decision aid to support decisions about trial participation in a randomized experiment. Future studies could follow patients over time to examine actual enrollment rates and explore results within specific cancer types. Ultimately, these interventions may improve patient autonomy and the quality of patientcentered decision making about this preference-sensitive choice. They may also improve rates of participation in clinical trials which is often very low. Low participation rates make it difficult to accrue sufficient patients to complete a study, increase costs of conducting trials, and reduce the generalizability of trial results. The symposium chair will begin the session with a brief overview of participation in clinical trials. The symposium will conclude with a period for questions and answers among the presenters and attending audience.
